Phil Hopkins and Les Sinnock were trained in 1987 by Alan Pugsley, one of Britain’s foremost brewing biochemists. In 1990, we established the first “brewpub” in Connecticut (The Hartford Brewery Limited), devising and brewing over 40 original beer recipes served alongside casual and upscale food.
Mike Harney joined us shortly thereafter and continues as Operating Manager. We’ve organized large outdoor beer and music festivals, beer tastings, beer school, and theme beer dinners, as well as sponsoring hundreds of local charities and beer festivals. This experience has given us exposure to ground-sweeping changes in consumer beer preferences over the past 25 years.
Our brewpub closed several years ago, following the departure of the Hartford Whalers from Connecticut. We missed our beer… so we brought it back. Our traditional recipes are produced to our updated specifications by the Shipyard Brewing Company, founded by Alan Pugsley, in Portland, Maine. We are currently exploring locations to re-establish our manufacturing presence in Hartford. Stay tuned.
